What can a cleaner realistically accomplish in 3 hours?

• Standard clean, 1-bed / 1-bath: 1 h 45 min (3.5 cleaner-hours)
• Standard clean, 2-bed / 2-bath: 2 h 25 min (4.8 cleaner-hours)
• Standard clean, 4-bed / 3-bath: 3 h 20 min (6.7 cleaner-hours)
• Deep clean, 2-bed / 2-bath: 4 h 05 min (8.2 cleaner-hours)
• Deep clean, 3-bed / 2-bath: 4 h 40 min (9.3 cleaner-hours)

So a solo cleaner booked for 3 hours in a 2-bed, 2-bath home will almost always run out of time before the job is finished, and something will get skipped. Usually it's floors or the second bathroom.

Deep cleans are where expectations and reality drift furthest apart. We learned this ourselves: a 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom deep clean we estimated at 9.5 cleaner-hours took 11. We used that job to recalibrate every estimate on our site, which is why our calendar now books more realistic slots.

What a 3-hour solo visit usually covers

If you book one cleaner for 3 hours in a 2-bed, 2-bath home, here's a realistic split: about 45 minutes on the kitchen (counters, stovetop, sink, appliance fronts, floor), about 45 minutes on two bathrooms, 45 minutes dusting and tidying the living areas and bedrooms, and 45 minutes vacuuming and mopping. That's a good maintenance clean. What won't fit: inside the oven or fridge, baseboards, inside cabinets, windows or a heavily used shower.

For a bigger home, you have two options. Book a team so more work fits into the same clock time, or split the home across visits, for example kitchen and bathrooms one week, bedrooms and floors the next. Splitting works well for people who want someone in the home for a short, predictable window, which is common for seniors living alone.

Whatever you choose, agree up front on what "done" means. A written list avoids the disappointment of discovering the spare bathroom was never reached. It also helps the cleaner: knowing your top three priorities means that if time runs short, it's the least important task that waits for next visit, not the one you care about most.
